Olhão
The islands and the vast sands where bodies sunbathe, Olhão, a city of nooks and crannies full of history with ancestors from an old fishing village.
Since prehistoric times, Olhão has had signs of settlement that attest to the occupation of this territory. The earliest written reference to this place designates it in 1378 as a place called Olham.
A cubist city, as it is known, it is marked by architecture that is unique in the Algarve and the country.
With a gastronomy based on the best the sea has to offer, discover the markets of Olhão, along the city’s riverside, where you can admire these unique and striking buildings of industrial architecture, built at the beginning of the 20th century.
The calm waters of the Ria Formosa, a paradise for nature lovers.
In the background, the white dotted houses. Attractions of the town and its municipality, a place for holidays made of sun, life and multiple charms.
Over time, the small fishing village has become such a thriving economic, social and urban centre that in 1985 it was elevated to the status of a city. The village of Olhão da Restauração became the town of Olhão da Restauração.
In the municipality, Armona Island is part of the Ria Formosa barrier island system, with the Fuseta Mar and Armona Mar beaches standing out.
