Loulé
Loulé is a perfect symbiosis of the rustic and the modern in a timeless fusion of beauty.
The long ribbon of soft, golden sand that can be found in the municipality of Loulé is framed between the blue of the sea and the strong ochres of the cliffs. A strong and beautiful combination. The splendour of the tiles in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, which is a treasure trove of art. The green hills of the orchards and wild vegetation in the mountains. The many shapes of the white chimneys, made of filigree and art.
With the valuable contribution of archaeology, it is now known that the presence of man in the municipality of Loulé dates back to the Early Palaeolithic. However, there was no complete occupation of the territory until the end of the Neolithic period. It is likely that the formation and development of settlements in the area of the current city of Loulé took place during the latter period, through communities that used precarious, possibly rotating habitats, typical of itinerant farmers and shepherds, which are associated with the occupation of numerous underground cavities in the vicinity (Goldra, Esparguina and Matos da Nora).
Loulé’s coastline is approximately 13.5 kilometres long and contains 10 bathing areas, which have been awarded the Blue Flag for more than 10 consecutive years.
These beaches are characterised by their high standard of excellence, quality and safety, and 7 of them stand out for their privileged conditions of accessibility and mobility for all.
The Loulé coastline is characterised by its mild climate with long hours of sunshine, an average sea water temperature of around 22ºC and all the biodiversity of the coastline, such as the vast natural areas of pine forest, salt marsh, dunes and freshwater lagoons. This qualified offer is complemented by the sophisticated and luxurious tourist facilities in the municipality.
