Monchique
Monchique is a Portuguese town in the district of Faro, region and sub-region of the Algarve, with around 2,300 inhabitants.
The freshness of the mountains in Monchique surprises those who come from the warm beaches. Landscapes that invite contemplation and the healthy exercise of walking along paths. Crystal-clear streams Green, very green.
The presence of man denounced by the whitewashed houses, the steps of the terraces where orchards and vegetable gardens grow. These are enticing invitations to travel the length and breadth of the municipality of Monchique.
Venture to the Barbelote Waterfall, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the municipality of Monchique. There is now a car access from the Vale de Largo-Barbelote road and, for the more curious, a small pedestrian access.
Just a short distance from the centre of Monchique, the Caldas are one of its biggest attractions. It has a reputation for the good quality of its water, which is considered medicinal; the thermal baths (nowadays dedicated to the treatment of some illnesses) have existed since the time of the Roman occupation. These people, who attached so much importance to water, built an important spa here.
A small square shaded by large trees is the centre of this small town, whose main charm comes from the park where you can enjoy plenty of shade, murmuring water and, above all, the great tranquillity that characterises this area, which is ideal for restful strolls and family picnics at the stone tables scattered all over the hill.
